Candyland Classroom Transformation 2020: QR Code Candyland

I completed my first Candyland Classroom Transformation in 2019 and you can see that blog post here. In my second year of a Candyland Classroom Transformation, I knew I wanted to make some major changes. Instead of a Candyland Classroom Transformation that focused on classroom procedures in the first month of school, I wanted to frame this in Latin content.

How I set up my first Candyland Classroom transformation can be found here.

The basics of my Candyland Classroom Transformation:

  • In teams, students used iPads to scan the QR code on the back of colored squares

  • QR codes led to a task relevant to our content we’d been working on

  • After they completed their task, and I approved it, students spun a wheel to see which color their gummy bear advanced to next!

Candyland Classroom Transformation Tip:

Students scanned QR codes on the back of colored squares. I covered my desks in dollar tree tablcloths (re-used from last year), but you can easily do this with colored butcher paper if your school has it!

Candyland Classroom Transformation Activities Included

QR codes leading to:

  • Review Quizizz games

  • Review Gimkit games (if you set up a Gimkit assignment as HW, students will be forced to reach a certain $ goal before you let them spin/advance)

  • Online Jigsaw puzzles of maps or historical timelines that students must put together then answer questions about

  • Activities in their packet relevant to our learning targets, such as verb conjugations for my 7th and 8th grade Latin students.

  • Non-tech challenges, such as vocab puzzles (pictured to the right)

After getting their completing one task, each team spun this wheel to determine what color task they advanced to next! Not only are colorful spinners fun by nature, but this also allowed my Candyland Classroom Transformation to resemble the board game closely.
